The Center for the Study of Peoples and Cultures of Portuguese Expression (CEPCEP), of the Portuguese Catholic University, recently published a collective work called A Condição de Ilhéu, directed by Professors Artur Teodoro de Matos, Onésimo Teotónio de Almeida and Roberto Carneiro. In this work, with about 700 pages, 63 authors participate with the following geographical focus: 39 wrote about the Azores, 11 about Cape Verde, 10 about Madeira and 3 about S. Tomé and Príncipe. The aim of this publication was to examine the soul of the islander in the various fields in which it can be analyzed, such as literature, psychology, art, culture, music, philosophy, ethnography, etc. It was a project thought for several years and finally carried out in about a year and a half.

Following this work, it is intended to edit a book dedicated to each of the archipelagos containing the texts published in the mother work to which new articles are added. This idea arises from the fact that many authors have expressed an interest in having participated in A Condição de Ilhéu, but that for various reasons were unable to integrate that work. In addition, the works by archipelago concentrate and expand the reflection on each island condition.

In this context, several Cape Verdean personalities were contacted who were willing to write unpublished articles that formed the new work, O Ilhéu de Cabo Verde. It is a 399-page work that is part of the «Studies and Documents» collection edited by this Study Center. Professors Corsino Tolentino, Crispina Gomes, Amália Vera-Cruz Lopes and Adriano Monteiro coordinated the work.
