It is a work that gathers about fifty wills from the first generations of settlers on the island of S. Jorge, Azores, mainly from the initial population centers of the island: Velas and Topo. In addition to the full publication of such documents, the work is preceded by an introduction on the evolution of the study of wills in Portugal and its importance for social history and, in particular, that of the family. The set of wills, despite their small number, constitutes a significant sample of Georgian society from its beginnings. In them one can see the way it was organized, its social, administrative and religious life of its population.
